Talk:Hex168

I've added stuff to it now. It's all good.

Unknowns

It is too early to say that it really is Microsoft, but it sure seems like it. Maybe upload the shots here? DoomBringer 06:10, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed the thing up

This page had some bad grammar and such... I edited it to be better looking, in general. Grammar and content is better. Will add "current events" tag. DoomBringer 22:38, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

Is this article really necessary? Hex 168 is nothing more than a pomotional contest for a product giveaway, not even an "alternate reality game" (yet another term for "marketing ploy"). Aside from the information already mentioned at the Xbox 360 article, the Hex168 article includes nothing but speculation. I'm going to make this into a redirect. --Anetode 23:47, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Full merge

If this is a redirect, why hasn't all content been added to the Launch page?

Hex168 was the name given to the October 2005 viral marketing campaign by Microsoft for its upcoming console, the Xbox 360. Another common phrase for this campaign is the beginning is nigh, which is the title of several of the threads started by the poster named Lutz.

The site featured a countdown, and seems to be the main hub of activity for this alternative reality game. Another site that seems related to this is the site http://www.thebeginningisnigh.com/, which simply redirects to the former site.

It is also relevant to note that 168 when simply converted from hexadecimal to decimal is 360.

The campaign focused on perpetuating a number of images of crop circles over popular Xbox websites which culminated in a link to the afore mentioned site. The page itself was filled with a number of references to '360', from locations with postal codes "360" to the anagram near the top of the page "Hex alert: e-seer prefers yetis" which is an anagram of "Free ThreeSixty pre-releases".

It is speculated that the hex168.blogspot.com site might be a hoax, along with a picture of the symbol on a London bus.

Contest

As revealed on October 18, 2005, the point of Hex168 is a contest to create a picture or short video of those "under the power of the hex." These photos can be of 0, 1, 6, or 30 people, and the videos can be of 6 or 30 people.
