@Strugglehouse Sorry for undoing your crops. In both instances, I found them to be cropped too tight. For the infobox image, some of his hair was cut off, and the current version to me seems like an ideal amount of breathing room. With the photo of them onstage, part of the focus is that they are on stage in this photo, so having more of the background is a positive aspect of it. The introduction paragraph makes no reference to him going by Hank, but the rest of the article goes on to refer to him as Hank. The article is also named Hank. I attempted to add a note about this, but it was reverted. I have read MOS:NICK and this seems like it should be included. Why shouldn't it be? 2620:1D5:A00:5:BBE9:701:EB94:70AB (talk) 15:41, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hank is considered a common short form (or as MOS:NICK calls it, a hypocorism) for Henry; thus, the style at Wikipedia is to give the full legal name in the opening sentence but the common name in the title and elsewhere in the article. Unlike non-obvious nicknames, there would be no inclusion of "Hank" as a qualifier in the opening sentence in this case. Radagast (talk) 22:56, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He's not alone in not going by his first name, many other notable people do. Those people's articles are formatted this way as well. Radagast (talk) 12:27, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's at all obvious where in the name Hank comes from. I understand (though it took me a second) that it comes from Henry, his middle name, but the MOS:NICK criteria are subjective, and, subjectively, I think that the way the article is written currently is confusing. The reader should not need to know esoteric English nicknaming practices to understand what it's saying. Spookyaki (talk) 01:48, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Radagast's argument relies on "Hank" being a common hypocorism of "Henry", but his legal first name is William; Henry is his middle name, which he also doesn't go by. So a reader seeing "William Henry Green II" would need to know both that Henry can become Hank, and also that someone might go by a hypocorism of a middle name they otherwise don't use. That's two non-obvious steps. MOS:HYPOCORISM's exemption exists because the connection should be apparent to a general reader; this one isn't. So this fits better as an MOS:BIOALTNAME or MOS:PSEUDONYM, and therefore "known professionally as Hank Green" in the lead both flows better and matches the guidelines. Journey to the Microcosmos ending
The Journey to the Microcosmos channel posted an official video over a year ago stating that regular production was ending. Per WP:SELFPUB, this appears acceptable as a non-controversial, self-attributed statement about their work.
I propose a minor update along the lines of: “In late 2024, the creators announced that regular episode production would conclude,” with a brief note that occasional streams continue. Eawatling (talk) 05:58, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
