Talk:Gilad Shalit

Proper terminology

Please use proper terminology and change the word militants into terrorists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A420:28:41D7:21C6:E994:3C91:F713 (talk) 16:45, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accurate rank upon dischargement

According to most israeli news sources, such as this one, Gilad Shalit was dischareged from the I.D.F with the rank of Sergeant First Class (רב-סמל) and not Seargent Major (רב-סמל מתקדם) like this source states.
It is possible that the later source is mistaken due to a mistranslation of sorts.

Therefore, i suggest changeing the rank description back to "Sergeant First Class" a.k.a "Rav Samal" and "Rasal" (רב-סמל, רס"ל).

Typo

Under the Capture Header under subheader Treatment, "harsly" is said instead of "harshly". I cannot check the source due to paywall if it was initially misspelled. Einail19 (talk) 13:59, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, thanks. Zerotalk 02:14, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Citation available for instance of Shalit holding up a newspaper

Hi all—in the "Captivity" section of this article, there is a mention of a publicly-released image of him holding up a newspaper dated 14 September 2009. A citation for this is needed. I found one from the BBC, and another from NBC News, both of which refer to this event. Please add these sources when next available. Thank you for your help!

Gilad Shalit is not MIA (missed in action)

As simple as that: Gilad Shalit is not MIA (missed in action). C arbetman (talk) 01:30, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In any event, the reference (to missing in action) is unverified and I have removed it accordingly. Bjenks (talk) 05:14, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the following text, it unnessecarily repeats the main conclusion of the section in an emotionally charged manner. The attached reference also does not mention either points.

Diff:

The abducted soldier's long plight was an extremely emotional issue within Israel, with large, tearful rallies on his birthdays and frequent media appearances by his father. Reflecting wide support for the cause, one Israeli TV anchor ended his daily newscast by mournfully reciting how many days the soldier has been held captive.
