GM Colombia and Ecuador
I see that GM Colombia and Ecuador were recently removed from the Subsidiaries list in the infobox, then reverted back. GM has shut down manufacturing operations in both countries (April announcement, Ecuador end of operations in August, and couldn't find confirmation of Colmotores closing), but still has sales and service operations in both. Since the two links in the infobox link to the manufacturing operations (GM Colmotores in Colombia and GM OBB in Ecuador), I would lean toward removing them from the list. I would also consider removing General Motors de Chile, as manufacturing (aside from knock-down kits, possibly, but I haven't confirmed that) ended in 2008, and they're not really considered a subsidiary on their own anymore. From GM's website, "General Motors South America is headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil and includes operations in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay." These could be moved to former subsidiaries in the GM navbox template. --Vossanova o< 21:58, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Or to reformulate the question slightly, do we list all subsidiaries (past and present) in the infobox or do we list only current subsidiaries (where do we put the past ones)? Remember that Wikipedia records historical details as well as current details. Stepho talk 03:45, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- I would only list current ones to keep the length under control. I thought that was common practice. Former ones can be either mentioned in the article, or included in the navbox like they are now. --Vossanova o< 20:13, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
Proposed Logo and Image Update – Flat Color, New Blue Version, Update RenCen Image
Hi all,
I’d like to propose updating the logo on this page to the current flat color, new blue version of the GM logo. This version has been widely adopted across GM’s branding materials, including digital and social platforms.
The logo is clearer, more modern, and better aligned with GM’s visual identity today. If helpful, I can link to a press kit or provide the image via Wikimedia Commons.
I’d also like to propose removing the wordmark, as GM has been limiting their use of it across channels and applications.
Lastly, I'd like to propose an update of the image of the RenCen, as it has outdated signage that no longer aligns with the current GM brand.
Let me know your thoughts—happy to assist with sourcing or uploading. 170.85.9.6 (talk) 14:40, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

GM isn't on the Dow Jones
Apparently in the company's infobox it says that the company is somehow part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. I'm not sure how this happened, but it's not true.
I checked everything else and it's not part of the index.
The company was on the index, and it stayed there for a really long time, from 1915 to 2009!
Since the article can't be edited by me (I have no account here,) can anyone try to fix this?
Thanks. ~2025-36035-73 (talk) 22:00, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- I've added "(former)" to the infobox entry. No idea if this is considered an appropriate change, or if just removing it entirely is called for. Kind of surprised that there's no coverage of their removal in the body of the article. cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 23:25, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- It's okay by me! Thanks ~2025-36820-95 (talk) 22:43, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
HQ Image Update
It appears that General Motors' moved their headquartered location was the Renaissance Center to Hudson's Detroit in Michigan.
Maybe the company didn't like their own tower in an U.S. state. MainRecline (talk) 21:10, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
LLC
Catfurball (talk · contribs) recently changed:
- "General Motors Company (GM) is an American ..."
to:
- "General Motors LLC doing business as General Motors, formerly General Motors Company (GM) is an American ..."
Most readers understand that the pile of letters after a company name are just legalese and in most cases treat the name the same whether it has the letters or not. As the first sentence in the article, this is like hitting the reader with a sledgehammer between the eyes. It adds clutter in the introduction, the very place that we want to keep things simple. Should we keep this addition, simplify it, remove it or shift it down to the history section where the other reorganisation stuff is? Note: I don't have a problem with the full name "General Motors LLC" being in the name field of the infobox or the first sentence. It's just the listing of alternative names that I prefer to avoid so early in the article. Stepho talk 23:43, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Stepho-wrs: Move my reference above the infobox by the current name General Motors LLC, and talk about the current name General Motors LLC in the history section. I do not know when this name change took place, it would be nice to know. Catfurball (talk) 23:55, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
@Stepho-wrs: I trimmed the introduction and moved my reference to the infobox; I also added a reference from Federal Register that says General Motors Company, General Motors Holdings LLC, and General Motors LLC. Apparently GM has been going by General Motors LLC, since at least 2010. Catfurball (talk) 18:04, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
