Comment: Review pending - Also, I made two small edits to this article back in October, but didn't begin expansion until a week ago. My understanding is that it's still "new", but correct me if I'm wrong.
@Geardona: Thanks for the review. To be clear, this is my seventh DYK nom so does require a QPQ, which is forthcoming. If you're interested in a second opinion on your review, you want to use the 'subst:DYK?again' template prior to approval. I'm honestly not sure if that can be done once the review is in the Approved queue or not, though. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 15:38, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think many in the United States of a certain age may be able to guess why segregated, but those elsewhere and even younger readers will not (and they really should not have to guess anyway). In particular, were blacks excluded from other libraries by law (Jim Crow law), city policy, or by social custom? Alanscottwalker (talk) 14:38, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alanscottwalker: Thank you for the feedback, and I agree with you that it would be helpful to have this information included in the article. While I'm relatively sure it was a Jim Crow law on the books in the city that mandated separate facilities, I haven't yet been able to find a reliable source that says so.
