Talk:Gaillardia

A note

I found the name misspelled, so I moved "Galliardia" to "Gaillardia". --Jose Ramos 04:34, 18 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Cultivation

Gaillardia needs full sun and at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight a day. They will flower poorly in shade and may develop powdery mildew.

Gaillardia prefer well-drained, loose, and sandy soil. They are not particular about soil pH.

Gaillardia will perform best in moist soils, but are highly drought tolerant.

Keep weeds under control during the growing season. Weeds compete with plants for water, space, and nutrients. You can cultivate often or use a mulch to prevent their germination.

You can plant gaillardia seeds outdoors in late spring after all danger of frost is past. You can also start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the average last frost date.

Before planting, you can mix a light application of a balanced organic fertilizer into the soil. Once established, many varieties will persist as short-lived perennials in climates with moderate winters. FloridaGardener352 (talk) 03:55, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
