Why is the title in plural? I think "First surface mirror" would be more appropriate (I added a redirect from there to here). Mumiemonstret (talk) 11:42, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Since there was no outcry for keeping the plural title I was encouraged to do my first page move on Wikipedia. Hooray! Mumiemonstret (talk) 23:33, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Spectrafocus Animation
I intend to describe first surface mirrors and the images obtained by reflecting a spectral beam off their modified planar surface to one where bumps, dips, and ripples create multicoloured fractal images from the spectrum Use of first surface mirrors described at www.spectrafocus.ca First surface mirrors sold as metallized polyester !,2,5,10 mil sheets and rolls. Dupont's band name "Mylar" refers to metallized polyester (metal poly). Please see warning regarding large sheets of metal poly at Legal at spectrafocus.ca````
James Webb mirror details
While James Webb's mirrors are made of polished Beryllium, they are coated with a thin layer of gold, which excels in reflecting IR light, which is then coated with a layer of glass, SiO2. The gold coating does not affect the mirror type being first-surface, but it is an important detail omitted here. The thin coating of glass seems like it would technically make it a second-surface mirror but maybe if it's thin enough, that's not the case?

Mounting first surface mirrors
