Draft of broad-concept article
This page has been tagged {{broad-concept article}}. I'd be willing to chip in, but I have a few points to bring up:
- There's already a draft named "Draft:Example", but it's an example of a draft, not a draft of an article named "Example". So instead, I suppose drafting should take place at a different draft name like, say, "Example (1)" or in someone's userspace sandbox.
- For reference, {{DraftChecker}} says:
There's also a banner when editing the page thanks to {{Draft at}}.
There is a draft named Example.
- For reference, {{DraftChecker}} says:
- What are some comparable broad-concept articles?
- The best I can think of are Particular, Abstract and concrete, Abstraction, Generalization, Idea, Model, Concept, Design, and Paradigm
- Meanwhile, these are disambiguations: Demonstration, Exemplar, Meaning, Detail, Context, Thing, Generality, and Trope
- What should the article look like and what sources should it draw from?
- To start, I notice the above deal with metaphysics, linguistics, cognition, and a bit of epistemology and ontology, as well as philosophy in general of course
- Coincidentally, I'm also drafting Exempli gratia, if anyone's interested in contributing to that
FYI @Duckmather (since you added the tag)

- 1. Yes! This could be a great article.
- 2. can we somehow change the image used for the Suggested Article banner at the top? The broom illustration doesn't seem to indicate the goal very well. 70.67.252.144 (talk) 07:24, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- Regarding the image, you're talking about Template:Broad-concept article, yeah? You can suggest the change on its talk page and/or the relevant WikiProject talk page (Disambiguation). I think an image with a pencil writing on a page would be good, similar to commons:File:Memo_icon.svg. — W.andrea (talk) 11:34, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- @W.andrea well, any progress since? I’m just curious. BorgQueen (talk) 23:30, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I went ahead and changed the icon myself. Or did you mean to reply to the top-level thread? — W.andrea (talk) 23:42, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- @W.andrea I meant the broad-concept article on Example. BorgQueen (talk) 23:46, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- No, no progress. Myself, I'm really not sure what an article would look like. I mean, I'm not aware of any scholarship on the concept of an example myself, though this isn't my field. — W.andrea (talk) 23:47, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- @W.andrea There must be some scholarly sources on the concept, I believe… Anyway, I was curious because I was considering to create such an article or two myself—but broad concept articles are certainly hard to write, aren’t they. BorgQueen (talk) 23:52, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

- @W.andrea, @BorgQueen, and a ping in spirit for our IP friend, may they collectively rest in piece: I took a very small crack at this topic some time ago. There's nothing there but one particularly valuable source, but from the cursory searches I did I am quite convinced there is more, and I plan to return to this one day. I remember "worked examples", dealing specifically with the analysis of examples used for the purpose of teaching the concepts they represent, having a couple papers on it. - But if you two haven't tried already, searching for sources on this topic is infuriating, because, as I'm sure you can imagine, the word "example" is extremely common. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 04:42, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
