Talk:Edith Atkins

Clarification needed

" ...exceeded the professional record of the time." Does "exceeded" mean they were longer (i.e. slower), or better (i.e. faster) than the professional records? Colonies Chris (talk) 15:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I didn't write that bit but I'd be pretty sure the writer intended "bettered". I've no way of checking it, but why write it otherwise? After all, you'd expect a woman and an amateur to be slower than a professional, probably a man. So you'd mention it only if she did better. In writing that, I've decided it'd be better just to delete that reference. If you're persuaded by my supposition, feel free to reinstate it! I would guess that it means faster than the professional women's record e.g. Marguerite Wilson's 1939 record.--FDent (talk) 10:26, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
