change the title back!
I don't know how to get the title to revert back to World Summit on Sustainable Development, but that was and continues to be the official title of this event, not "Earth Summit 2002." The whole thing is confusing enough as it is without adding personal ideas about what it SHOULD have been called. Please, can someone fix this?

Did he send a representative (Powell) or not? (inconsistent. compare World Summit on Sustainable Development)Ben T/C 12:19, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Yes, he did actually-see this link. I don`t know really what was his role exactly. http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldsummit2002/story/0,12264,785902,00.html
merging articles
I would be for merging this article with the one mentionned (Rio Conference). The Johannesburg conference (or WSSD, World Sumit on Sustainable Developement)is often quoted as "Rio+10", which referes to the WSSD`s commitment towards principles formalated in the UNCED (United Nation Conference on Environment and Development, beter known as "Rio Summit" or "Earth Summit").On the oficial website (http://www.johannesburgsummit.org/) the WSSD Final Declaration can be found (http://www.johannesburgsummit.org/html/documents/summit_docs/131302_wssd_report_reissued.pdf)were it is stated p.14 (Plan of Implementation): "The present plan will further build on the achievements made since the UNCED and expedite the realisation of the remaining goals".

- I agree, I would be for editing this article however as it's clearly been written by someone with a heavy prejudice against the United Nations.
Rio+10
Actually "Rio+10" was the name given for one of the preparatory meetings, BEFORE the Johannesburg meetings. It focused on a review of the past ten years since the Earth Summit, as a basis for the discussions about the NEXT ten years at WSSD. And PLEASE do NOT merge the WSSD article with UNCED or Earth Summit 1992. This history is complex and confusing enough for people without mixing everything up.
World Summit on Sustainable Development
Merged from talk page:
History of the Earth Summits
I understood that every 10 years, since 1972, the best of the best humanity can bring forward, gather in the "Earth Summits" to inventorise what are humanities greates challenges, develop a plan of action to help humanity make it beyond the year 2100=Agenda 21 and reasses it every 10 years in these Earth Summits:
1972: Stockholm 1982: Nairobi 1992: Rio De Janeiro 2002: Johannesburg 2012: on the www referred to as Rio+20: http://www.uncsd2012.org 2022: insert Candidate Earth Summit Towns and Regions as soon as known.
