Shorten the Novels section

BOZ recently removed an addition to the Novels section that added the "Destinies" series to it. I believe that in that particular case he was wrong, but his overall comment that the section could use a good trimming was a valid one. I have therefore added the "Destinies" series back in, but have heavily trimmed the section from its current (with the "Destinies" addition) word count of 599, to what I believe is a solid but slim 341 words. I will be WP:BOLD and simply make the changes now, but figured I'd start a discussion in order to see if there are any further ideas. Vyselink (talk) Vyselink (talk) 23:58, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to think that section could use a heavy trim, maybe just to Chronicles and Legends, probably also War of Souls and one or at most two more. Having lots of series listed there only encourages people to say "hey, what about this one?" when this should only be an overview of the absolute most important parts of the overall series. If people keep adding them here, then we may as well not have a list page because the whole list will be here. :) BOZ (talk) 00:41, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think the easiest cut off would be does the novel/series have its own article. If it is not notable enough to have a standalone article, then it probably doesn't need to be listed here. Sariel Xilo (talk) 01:57, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Don’t need to list every novel, but highlighting the ones written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman as the core of the series makes perfect sense. 2001:56B:3FE5:4E7E:F861:7992:2C39:CC2F (talk) 23:18, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just wondering if there is a policy-based method we can use to determine which articles should be on the shortlist of "core" novels. BOZ (talk) 04:22, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Given that Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman launched the Dragonlance series and that virtually all subsequent novels build upon the foundation they created, any work authored by either--whether individually or together--deserves recognition as "core" or canonical. This consideration should naturally extend to collaborations involving either author, such as Margaret Weis’s partnership with her former husband, Don Perrin. Accordingly, Kang’s Regiment should rightfully be regarded as part of the core narrative. 2607:FEA8:4DA2:FA00:788E:8617:9ACF:8E4A (talk) 13:31, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Right, but I'm wondering if there is any policy-based method we can use to determine which novels should be listed. BOZ (talk) 22:57, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While there may not be an official policy per se, a logical framework could be built around authorial involvement. Works authored or co-authored by Weis and/or Hickman--who established the tone, themes, and core mythology of the setting--could serve as the baseline for what’s considered "core". Extending that logic, titles created in direct collaboration with them, like Kang’s Regiment, would naturally fall under the same umbrella. It’s not a formal policy, but it does offer a consistent, lore-respecting criterion. 67.224.104.58 (talk) 03:10, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed that Kang's Regiment should be considered "core" as it is partially penned by Margaret Weis. All Margaret Weis and/or Tracy Hickman novels or short stories, even if collaboratively with others, should be recognized on this list. ~2025-41735-85 (talk) 19:06, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think limiting it to notable novels that have bluelinks is a good rule of thumb since List of Dragonlance novels exists. We don't need to list everything in this article. Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:13, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Article review

It has been a while since this article has been reviewed, so I took a look and noticed that there are lots of uncited statements, especially in the "Video games" section. Should this article go to WP:GAR? Z1720 (talk) 22:41, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of uncited statements, especially in the "Video games" section. Z1720 (talk) 19:16, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @AFigureOfBlue who worked to get this one to GA back in 2009 under a different username. BOZ (talk) 22:24, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping; unfortunately I'm much too far removed from D&D proper these days to be able to dig into this in a particularly useful way (I'm still into TTRPGs, just... haven't touched anything actually D&D-specific since the release of 4e or thereabouts). 🔹Blue (talk/contribs) 17:00, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, the basis for your reassessment is criteria 2 "verifiable with no original research" of the Good Article Criteria, and specifically the "Video games" section? AugusteBlanqui (talk) 10:02, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@AugusteBlanqui: No, my basis was with 2b, which states "All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose)". While the biggest block of uncited text is in the "Video games" section, there is also uncited text elsewhere. Z1720 (talk) 19:22, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think I can find the citations. Do the Novels and Setting sections need to be cited as well, given that those are plot summaries? Both would probably be the most difficult to find secondary sources for. I'm fairly confident I can find references for the rest of the article. --FlairTale (talk) 03:39, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Anything you can do would be awesome. :) BOZ (talk) 05:43, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Z1720 and BOZ: Everything should be cited now. --FlairTale (talk) 03:41, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @FlairTale, I think you did great. :) BOZ (talk) 06:46, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
