I think it might be worth mentioning the 1975 comic The Long Tomorrow by Dan O'Bannon and Moebius. The comic has been listed as a source of inspiration for both William Gibson and Ridley Scott. Given that it covers most of the usual tropes and was notably early and influential, I think there's a chance this should be included.

I do find it funny that in an article about a hypothetical dystopian society that is slowly decomposing because of the failure to support one another we are using an image created by a programmed commercial faux artificial intelligence instead of the hundreds of public domain images we can attribute to a human being. Then the article goes on to talk about blade runner. It’s laughable in its execution to be avoidant of self reflection to the point of being sardonic. A poster or still from Blade Runner would be a great top image, I remember one of the people from CD Projekt describing it as the 'cyberpunk bible', plus it wouldn't really be an advertisement as its old and commonly known to be an influential work from cyberpunk's heyday Old Guard (talk) 15:52, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The cited source reiterates that Mike Pondsmith was not influence by Gibson but by Blade runner. This has been a repeated issue with the Cyberpunk post. Interviews and other sources from Mike Pondsmith himself have repeatedly stated that he hadn't even read Gibson when he did 2013 and that it was influenced by Blade Runner and Walter Jon Williams who in addition to writing "Hardwired" in the early genre, wrote for Pondsmith's RTal himself and was a playtester of CP2013 and CP2020. ~2025-43440-46 (talk) 05:41, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Do we really want a blurry vague AI generated image be the first thing people see when they try to find out what cyberpunk is? This could be illustrated much more nicely, for example, look at the covers of the various editions of Neuromancer.

Hopefully this doesn't become a trend here. There would be little added value if Wikipedia started serving as a mere proxy to AI content. ~2025-34440-57 (talk) 12:45, 17 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I’m actually not sure why an AI image is being used on this page. A 2025 RFC states “most images wholly generated by AI should not be used on en.wiki.” There’s no reason to be using an ai image here. OrbitalVoid49 (talk) 13:49, 17 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
