Redirect of article
Why was this redirected? I included citations with very substantial coverage in reliable sources. Climatic variability is an important subject that is distinct, although related to climate change. Climate variability is studied along with climate normals to assess what variations are normal and what range of variations are normal as opposed to what climate change is taking place over the longer term and (stay with me) how climate change is affecting climate variability and extremes. As the sources note it's important to differentiate between long term moves in climate change and variability (background noise, if you will). Climate change has also been noted in sources as having an affect on variability. Candleabracadabra (talk) 20:28, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Proposed merge of climate oscillation into this article
- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- As about a week has passed with no objection the result of this discussion was merge. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:00, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
I've just boldly performed a merge with the climate pattern article. As it was basically an almost unsourced stub, with an ill-defined scope that was easily done. Climate oscillation has more information to it, such as a (horribly outdated and possible biased) section Climate oscillation#Through geologic and historical time. Any objections to a merge that would leave most of that section in the bin? Femke Nijsse (talk) 08:00, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
I support this proposed merge. I think it will be unlikely anyone will want to put the deleted info back, but just in case probably best to merge in everything first then do the deleting. Chidgk1 (talk) 15:21, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
Move discussion in progress
There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Climate variability and change which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 20:16, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
