Why was this redirected? I included citations with very substantial coverage in reliable sources. Climatic variability is an important subject that is distinct, although related to climate change. Climate variability is studied along with climate normals to assess what variations are normal and what range of variations are normal as opposed to what climate change is taking place over the longer term and (stay with me) how climate change is affecting climate variability and extremes. As the sources note it's important to differentiate between long term moves in climate change and variability (background noise, if you will).
