Someone's comment
Defeño or defequense is not derogatory at all. It is common to see people from other states use the state they were born in and the ending "ense". ie. people from Durango are Duranguense, Mexico State, Mexiquense. Defeñense doesnt make sense, hence Defeño is what people from Mexico DF call themselves. It is far from derogatory. It is used because Chilango is considered by some people born in Mexico City as invadors, people not from Mexico CIty that move there looking to work but end up stealing and commiting crimes due to the lack of jobs. However, most Mexicans from the 31 Mexican states do not make any distinction whatsoever about residents of Mexico that were born in Mexico City or those that moved there and call all residents of Mexico City "Chilangos", even "Chilanguillos" an even more derogatory term. It should be noted that many residents of Mexico City left this city after the 1985 earthquake that devastated it, and that it was them who committed innumerable crimes in the Mexican states to which they moved.{{unsigned|65.112.161.163}

I agree that "defeño" is not derogatory at all and most people from Mexico DF prefer this word to "chilango", despite the fact that is not even mentioned in the dictionary. On the other hand, "defequense" is more derogatory, since the word sounds very similar to the verb "defecar" ("to defecate"). 201.167.244.100 (talk) 15:46, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Tell that to the Real Academia de la Lengua Española or to any of the ~90 million mexicans who don't actually live at Mexico City. 200.23.6.133 (talk) 16:26, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- I don´t think it´s a piece of garbage. There are these two cultural uses of the word "chilango" as the article mentions- For people living in Mexico City (from anywhere) or people who are Mexico City born and bread. That´s common usage.MazzyEstrella (talk) 16:33, 3 September 2014 (UTC) [1]

Derogatory
It cant be that derogatory. we have a restaurant in the SFBay Area called "el rinconcito chilango", who would name a restaurant with the term if it was too insulting to the people from mexico city.108.94.3.58 (talk) 23:32, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
