First Build Date

I own hull #79 of 800 built of the C&C 30 MK I. The hull identification number of my boat is 30007972. Decoded, that is C&C 30 #0079 built September 1972. Therefore it is inaccurate for the article to state "first built 1973". I know the article is citing sailboatdata.com, but the information on sailboatdata.com is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:283:4000:4d19:885f:1d82:bb9f:359a (talk)

It is possible that saliboatdata is incorrect, but it is also possible that your WP:OR understanding of the serial number is incorrect. We would need a new WP:RS to change this. If I had to guess I would suspect that, like cars, yours is a 1973 model, built in Sept 1972, but again we'd need a ref to confirm that. - Ahunt (talk) 11:34, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding of the hull identification number (HIN) is correct. Initially I thought I had hull #7, but according to Rob MacLachlan I have hull #79. Rob MacLachlan (https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-maclachlan-b398b0120/) is a longtime and often-quoted expert on C&C Yachts, and a principal at South Shore Yachts in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, CA where C&C's first factory was located. I was referred to him by Rob Ball, C&C's Chief Designer from 1973 onward, for the answer to my question about how to interpret my boat's HIN. 73.95.78.99 (talk) 19:27, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
