Talk:Brian Rix

Shelley's surname

I've added Shelley's last name to the info box: it looked a little odd with her two siblings being mentioned with their full names and her just having her forename: I assume she shared their surname? Dom Kaos (talk) 17:41, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She did; her entry in the death index proves that. Nietzsche 2 (talk) 00:54, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Brian Rix has at least one other kid: Jonathan, known as Jonty (I know him personally), author of the prize-winning novel Some Hope. All the best, Cris Freddi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.45.193.152 (talk) 16:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CBE

Since Sir Brian has both a CBE and a knighthood, does that make him a KCBE? Or is that something different? Paul Magnussen (talk) 15:54, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is, but I would have to look into the details. PatGallacher (talk) 19:04, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Rix, Baron RixBrian Rix – A clear case of someone better known by their name without the title, he only got his life peerage at the age of 68, long after he was well known for his stage career and other activities. PatGallacher (talk) 19:04, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This move request is within the framework of WP:NCPEER, if you read it carefully enough. PatGallacher (talk) 20:39, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Forms of address

@Editor FIN: Lord Rix is a Baron, therefore he is formally addressed as "Lord Rix". You would indeed put "The Lord Rix" on the envelope if you were writing a formal letter to him, but you wouldn't call him that orally, either formally or informally, nor would you use it in any other normal print context. All WP:RS call him "Lord Rix" in print, which is a correct form of address in that context. If you do want to call him by his full legal title in the box, then do so: but be aware that it's "The Lord Rix CBE DL", and fill in the relevant fields: see William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley for an example of how to do it. To call him "The Lord Rix" here is neither one nor the other and is a hypercorrection which just looks wrong to a British reader. -- Markshale (talk) 10:13, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the needs photo parameter

I've removed the needs photo parameter since there's a picture in the infobox. Of course if the article needs more photos, feel free to add it back in. KaraLG84 (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
