Aurel Wintner entry
| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
This message is from Claude Wintner, Aurel Wintner's son. There are several omissions and inaccuracies in the entry on Aurel Wintner as it now stands.
1) I have added important works by him to the Internet Archive web site in digitized form. Therefore, the works section should be expanded to read as follows (as already is the case in the German version of Wikipedia, as you can verify):
Spektraltheorie der unendlichen Matrizen, 1929 DIGITIZED (with link to Internet Archive) The Analytical Foundations of Celestial Mechanics, 1941 NEWLY AVAILABLE IN PRINT (Dover 2014) Eratosthenian Averages, 1943 DIGITIZED (with link to Internet Archive) The Theory of Measure in Arithmetical Semi-Groups, 1944 DIGITIZED (with link to Internet Archive) An Arithmetical Approach to Ordinary Fourier Series, 1945 DIGITIZED (with link to Internet Archive) The Fourier Transforms of Probability Distributions, 1947 DIGITIZED (with link to Internet Archive)
2) Two important doctoral students that are omitted are: Philip Hartman (who wrote the article you mention in the Reference section, containing the comprehensive list of all my father’s publications). and E. Kenneth Haviland. (Both men went on to be faculty members in their own right at Johns Hopkins.)
3) Finally, it would greatly pain my father to know that his nationality is listed as Austro-Hungarian. Indeed, he was born in Hungary, and that clearly must stay. But from the day of his naturalization in 1935 through the day of his death he was -- proudly, and most gratefully -- a United States citizen! Thus, the entry should state: Austro-Hungarian by birth; after 1935, United States.
Done, it was certainly very kind of you to give the Internet Archive permission to host your late father's works. I listed his nationality as "Austrian-Hungarian American", would that be acceptable? Thanks, Altamel (talk) 01:21, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the changes recently made. I have just 2 suggestions.
It would be nice if in the Works section, after The Analytical Foundations of Celestial Mechanics, 1941 reference you could just add the 2 words: Dover, 2014 (as it already stands in the German edition of Wikipedia). The 1941 printing (Princeton) is very hard to obtain, while the Dover reprint is readily available.
1) So: The Analytical Foundations of Celestial Mechanics, 1941, Dover 2014.
Thanks for adding Haviland to the list of my father's doctoral students. He was, indeed, Edward Kenneth Haviland, but never used Edward -- he was known to all as Kenneth.
2) So: I think E. Kenneth Haviland would be better and more correct.
Again, many thanks -- Claude Wintner (Aurel Wintner's son)
