Wikidata
Wikidata now has a road number formatter (P8498) property that would make it possible to streamline some of these modules a little. Instead of needing to specify the abbreviation format of each route network, the module could simply supply the Wikidata QID of the route network and state. A template like {{jct}} could then automatically look up the correct format. For example:
- Interstate highways (California):
{{replace|{{if empty|{{wd|property|Q94247|P8498|P3005=Q99}}|{{wd|property|Q94247|P8498}}}}|$1|5}}→ I-5 - Interstate highways (Texas):
{{replace|{{if empty|{{wd|property|Q94247|P8498|P3005=Q1439}}|{{wd|property|Q94247|P8498}}}}|$1|5}}→ IH 5
I've also proposed a road name formatter property to further streamline these modules. It's still waiting for some feedback.

For countries in the Southern African Development Community, the following country-specific icons may be used instead of the generic ones:

Description of suggested change: I don't understand why the names in Module:Road data/strings/CAN/NT aren't causing the names of highways to appear in List of Northwest Territories highways. For example, Highway 1 should be called "Mackenzie Highway". I see in other jurisdictions the proper name replaces the highway number. Also, Is it possible to add new highway types for the collector class highways? Those new types would be Road, Access Road, Winter Road, and Ice Road. - This is not a specific, actionable, request for an edit to be made (please add this code there) and it seems nobody has taken up the invitation to code this in almost a month, so deactivating. Feel free to request (or implement yourself as you're an admin) specific code be deployed. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:04, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Currently, Module:Road data/strings/USA/SC uses U.S. Route 17 Alternate (South Carolina). It should be changed to U.S. Route 17 Alternate to avoid poinless redirects. 2600:1700:6180:6290:D171:B080:F0AA:D5B3 (talk) 21:43, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NOTBROKEN, as this, like many other redirects, may make better use of the "what links here" tool, making it easier to track how articles are linked -- especially when it's specifically coming from these modules. Plus, there might still be possibilities in the future to develop U.S. Route 17 Alternate (Elizabeth City, North Carolina), U.S. Route 17 Alternate (Jacksonville, Florida), U.S. Route 17 Alternate (Savannah, Georgia), and other similar pages into full articles.
