ZIM Connections (trading as ZIM) is a British eSIM marketplace and mobile internet connectivity platform based in London, United Kingdom. The company was founded in 2020 by Giulia Acchioni and Irina Gheorghiu.
ZIM Connections provides mobile internet voice and data plans for businesses and individuals in more than 200 destinations worldwide.[1] The company operates primarily through a mobile application available on iOS and Android devices. Consumers can browse and purchase eSIM plans that include data roaming, 4G and 5G internet, unlimited data, and local calls, as well as monitor their data consumption via the app.[2]

History
Founders Acchioni and Gheorghiu met at school in Brussels, Belgium, before both moving to the UK to study.[3] The pair founded ZIM Connections in 2020 after experiencing frequent connectivity issues while travelling abroad.[4]
In its first five years, the company grew rapidly and acquired significant investment via equity crowdfunding campaigns. In 2021, ZIM raised £265,000 during a pre-seed funding round.[5] Investors included Demium Capital, Velocity Capital, BCombinator, Business Angel & Advisor, and Felix Malpartida (ex-director at Vodafone UK).
In April 2025, BTS (Business Telecommunications Services) invested in ZIM Connections to expand their mobile network operations globally.[6] Later that year, eSIM Go rolled out ZIM's domestic mobile data plans for the UK market.[7]
In February 2026, ZIM Connections and SBTS (a joint venture between BTS and SoftBank Corp.) launched an eSIM solution centred on travel into and from Japan.[8]
Awards
ZIM Connections is reviewed positively and currently holds a 4.2 rating on Trustpilot.[9] The company has received multiple awards recognising its entrepreneurial achievements, including:
- Startup Revelation Award 2021
- Amadeus Scale-Up Award for Travel Sustainability (Digital Enterprise Show 2022)[10]
- Award Revolution (Repsol)
- Winner (Scale-UP! World Summit)
- Pitch Winner (Microsoft Startups)
- Next20 Startups (DTW Ignite Copenhagen)
