Xiao Wang (Chinese: 王霄; pinyin: Wáng Xiāo; born 23 December 1986) is a Chinese classical violinist. He was the winner of the Szigeti International Violin Competition (Budapest International Music Competition.[1][2]), the New York Concert Artists Competition, and the New York Classic Violin Competition[3], he is also a prizewinner of the 11th Seoul International Music Competitionand laureate of the 2015 Queen Elizabeth Competition[4]

Early life and education
Born and raised in a musical family, Xiao Wang was surrounded by music from an early age. Both of his grandmothers were sopranos, and one of his grandfathers was a violinist. Wang began studying the violin at the age of five with his aunt in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. He was later admitted to the Affiliated Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he studied with Wei Zhao and Weidong Tong. During his final two years at the Conservatory, he served as concertmaster of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra.
In 2005, Wang was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music, where he was mentored by Joseph Silverstein, former concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Four years later, he continued his studies in New York at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Lucie Robert, earning the Artist Diploma.
Wang is the first-prize winner of numerous international competitions, including the 2012 Szigeti International Violin Competition, the 2012 Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition, the 2014 Eisenbach-Fried Concerto Competition, the 2014 Heida Hermanns International Competition, the 2014 Waldo Mayo Memorial Competition, the 2016 New York Concert Artists Competition, and the 2016 William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition. He is also a prizewinner of the 11th Seoul International Music Competition and a laureate of the 2015 Queen Elizabeth Competition.

Career
Wang has been praised as an “excellent violinist” who “made the most of its expressive opportunities” (The New York Times).

He has appeared as a soloist throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, performing at Carnegie Hall, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, the Berliner Philharmonie, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and the Seoul Arts Center. His orchestral collaborations include the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhaus Akademisches Orchester, Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra, Madrid Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Orchestra of Belgium, under the batons of Marin Alsop, David Gilbert, János Kovács, George Manahan, Christoph Poppen, Sergey Smbatyan, and András Ligeti.
As a passionate chamber musician, Wang has performed alongside Alexandar Chausian, Phillippe Entremont, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, Ian Fountain, Markus Groh, Itamar Golan, Konstantin Heidrich, Olga Kern, Phillipe Muller, Charles Neidich, and Lucie Robert. He has also collaborated with members of the American String Quartet, the Mendelssohn String Quartet, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic.
Wang has been invited to perform and teach at international festivals, including the Budapest Spring Festival, Texas Music Festival, Festival International de Musique de Wissembourg, Bravo Music Festival, Qingdao Music Festival, Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, Mattheiser Sommer- Akademie Bad Sobernheim, and Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz.
Wang serves on the violin faculty at the Manhattan School of Music[5].
Other Collabrations
In 2016, Wang toured with Jazz pianist, Yamaha Artist Giorgi Mikadze, Grammy nominee drummer Kenneth Salters, and bassist Adrian Moring in Asia.
In the same year, Wang collaborated with renowned Chinese dancer and actor Willis 威力斯 on the CCTV gala show.
