Wellspring Media was an American film distribution and home entertainment company.


History

Fox Lorber (1981-1997)

Wellspring Media was founded in 1981 by Richard Lorber and David Fox as Fox Lorber The first title they distributed was The Compleat Beatles, a documentary series cofinanced by Fox Lorber.[1]

Richard Lorber left the company in 2001. Lorber went on to launch Koch Lorber Films with Koch Entertainment in 2003, then Lorber HT Digital, which merged with Kino International to form Kino Lorber in 2010.

It ventured into theatrical distribution with the release of Ulysses's Gaze.

Wellspring Media (2001-2006)


Following the shuttering of Winstar Communications, the company was acquired by American Vantage Group and was renamed to Wellspring.[2]

The Weinstein Company acquisition of Genius Products, leading to the shuttering of Wellspring's theatrical divison and a layoff of ten employees It's final release was Unknown White Male.[3]

The home entertainment division remained as a label for Genius and moved to Santa Monica, California.
