Wael Darweish is an Egyptian visual artist. His practice is rooted in painting and drawing, and also includes mixed media, collage, and site-responsive installation. His work has been associated with themes of memory, human presence and absence, psychological space, architecture, the body, and traces of lived experience.

Career

According to the Egyptian Fine Art Sector, Darweish is listed in its artist database.[1]

In 2010, the Egyptian Fine Art Sector reported that Darweish received the 15th International Workshop Prize at Lendava Museum of Arts in Slovenia, with the prize connected to a private exhibition at the museum in 2011.[2]

In 2012, Ahram Online announced his exhibition Vivid Memory in Egypt.[3] In 2022, Egypt Today reported on his exhibition Me – You.[4] His exhibition The Prank was also listed by My Art Guides.[5]

In 2023, Ahram Online highlighted Darweish's exhibition at Yassin Art Gallery in Cairo.[6]

Darweish's work has also appeared in the art market context, including a lot page listed by Christie’s.[7] His work is also listed by the Barjeel Art Foundation.[8]

Artistic practice

Darweish's artistic practice moves between painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, video, and installation. His work often uses layered surfaces, symbolic imagery, architectural references, and spatial arrangements to examine memory, the human figure, emotional experience, and the relationship between body and place.[9]
