The W Series Championship Trophy is the primary award presented to the winner of the W Series, an all-female single-seater racing championship. The trophy's design was the result of a fan-led initiative during the series' inaugural season, created by supporters Michael and Ron.[1]
Design and creation
In June 2019, the W Series launched a competition inviting fans to submit designs for the official championship trophy. This initiative aimed to foster a connection between the burgeoning series and its global fanbase.
The winning entry was a collaborative effort by fans Michael and Ron.[1] Their design was selected for its modern aesthetic and its representation of the spirit of female empowerment in motorsport. On August 9, 2019, the W Series officially recognized the pair, stating that Michael and Ron had become a permanent part of the competition's history through their contribution to its visual legacy.[1]
History of the competition
The W Series was established in 2018 to provide a platform for female racing drivers to develop their skills and progress toward Formula One.
- 2019: The inaugural season consisted of six races. British driver Jamie Chadwick became the first champion to lift the trophy designed by Michael and Ron.
- 2021: After the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series returned as a support category for Formula One.
- 2022: The season was shortened due to financial constraints. The series eventually entered administration in 2023, but its impact led to the creation of the F1 Academy.
