Vinkott is a Shanghai-born, Tokyo-based songwriter, lyricist, arranger, record producer, vocalist and model. She uses the writer names ViiiV, VK and 葉月. She is affiliated with United Future Creators.[1]
She has contributed to works by TWICE, EXILE THE SECOND, Girls², Riho Sayashi, Che'Nelle and alan, and has worked in J-pop, K-pop, soundtrack music and commercial music.[1]
Career
Vinkott was born in Shanghai, China. She studied business English before moving to Japan, where she obtained an MBA from Rissho University.[1]
In 2012, she formed the heavy metal unit Fruits of Lips in Tokyo with Nori.S under the name Vinkott, serving as vocalist, lyricist, composer and arranger. In 2015, the unit released its first album, EXODUS, on SoundCloud. She also took part in the Hans Zimmer-related music contest "Bleeding Fingers Contest" under the Fruits of Lips name, which led to her interest in soundtrack music.
She later expanded her work into the Chinese music market under the name 葉月, contributing to soundtrack music for Chinese television dramas and films, including 那小子真酷, 何所冬暖,何所夏凉, 舒克的桃花运 and 亲爱的她们. In 2017, she arranged alan's song "美人谷", which was included on the album 十念 produced by Kazuhito Kikuchi.
As a songwriter in Japan, she has worked under the name ViiiV. She participated as a composer on TWICE's "Inside of me", which was included on the group's Japanese fifth album DIVE and used as a LUX × TWICE tie-in song.[2][3][4] She also contributed lyrics, composition and backing vocals to EXILE THE SECOND's "NEVER SAY GOODBYE", which was used as the ending theme for the Taiwanese reality show Mystery Hardware starring EXILE AKIRA on Disney+ / STAR Chinese Channel.[5]
In addition to songwriting and production, Vinkott works as a vocalist, demo vocalist and backing vocalist. She is also involved in the AI artist project DJ Sakura.
Artistry
Vinkott writes lyrics in Chinese, Japanese and English. She has worked across J-pop, K-pop, rock, hip hop, R&B, dance music, soundtrack music and commercial music.[1] She began learning piano in elementary school and also works as a vocalist and rapper. Her work includes topline writing, demo vocals and guide vocals for pop production.
Outside music production, she has also worked as a model, narrator and social media promoter.
