Utz Group

Utz Group (legally Georg Utz Holding AG) is a Swiss multinational manufacturer of reusable plastic transport packaging and logistics systems. The company specializes in plastic containers, pallets, thermoformed workpiece carriers, and customized packaging solutions for industries including automotive, pharmaceuticals, retail, electronics, and intralogistics. The group is headquartered in Bremgarten, Aargau, Switzerland.

History

The company was founded in 1947 by Georg Utz (1916–1988) in the Höngg district of Zurich as a toolmaking business. In 1953, the company relocated to Bremgarten, Switzerland, where it began serial production for sewing machine components.

In 1955, Georg Utz AG was incorporated as a public limited company. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, the company shifted its focus from toolmaking to injection-molded plastic products for storage and transport applications. By 1960, plastic container manufacturing had become the core business.[1]

In 1973, Utz installed what was then Europe’s largest injection molding machine, with a clamping force of 3,000 tons, for the production of plastic pallets and large containers.

The company introduced recycling operations in 1977, processing returned plastic containers into reusable granulate as part of its circular manufacturing strategy. Thermoforming production for custom workpiece carriers began in 1985, and the company achieved ISO certification in 1987.

Beginning in the 1990s, Utz expanded internationally with subsidiaries in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Poland, the United States, China, and Mexico.[2]
