Urgente24 is an Argentine digital media outlet based in the city of Buenos Aires.[1] Founded in 1997, during the early development of digital media in Argentina, with archived content available from the early 2000s.[1] The outlet covers topics such as politics, economics, media, and international affairs, and operates primarily as an online publication.[1]
The platform has been cited in political and media debates, as well as in academic research.[2]
History
Urgente24 traces its origins to around 1997, initially operating within the dynamo.com.ar platform associated with FiberTel, a company then linked to Cablevisión/TCI.[3] It later developed its own platform. According to its founder, Edgar Mainhard, some early archives were lost due to cyberattacks.[3]
The outlet participated in early digital journalism initiatives in Argentina and is reported to have been involved in the creation of a digital journalism association.[4]
During the 2000s, Urgente24 expanded its editorial activities and at one point published a multimedia supplement titled Edición i.[5] It also developed a strategy that included coverage of other media outlets.[6] Despite these developments, Urgente24 continued operating as a digital outlet and remained cited in both media and academic contexts.[2]
Since 2021, the outlet has expanded its content into new thematic verticals, including sports coverage, and has incorporated audiovisual formats such as podcasts.[7]
Operational model
Urgente24 operates as a digital news outlet. Its operational model is based on online content distribution, which may include revenue from advertising and audience traffic, typical of digital platforms.[8] Detailed public information about its financial structure or revenue sources is not available.[7]
Services
Urgente24 provides news coverage and analysis through its website, focusing on Argentine politics and economics, media, international affairs, and sports. It also distributes content via social media and produces audiovisual formats such as podcasts.[7]
Awards and recognition
In 2023, Urgente24 received a Martín Fierro Award (Digital) for Best Native Digital Print Media Outlet.[9]
