An untitled Transformers: The Last Knight sequel is an upcoming American science fiction action film based on Hasbro's Transformers toy line. It is the sequel to Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) and a currently unnumbered installment in the Transformers film series with Michael Bay returning as director.

Following the critical and commercial failure of The Last Knight in 2017, development for a sequel to the film was put on hold with two standalone spin-offs, Bumblebee (2018) and Rise of the Beasts (2023), alongside an animated film, Transformers One (2024), being released in its place with Bay being involved as producer. As a result of the underperformance of One, Hasbro announced that they will no longer be co-financing film adaptations based on their Intellectual properties, leaving external studios to fund such projects instead in their place. In June 2025, Bay was revealed to be attached as director for a new film from a screenplay originally written by Jordan VanDina.

In 2015, plans for a "Transformers Cinematic Universe" was in development since the release of Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman tasked to be in charge of a writers' room for future films.^[1] Originally announced in 2016 with a scheduled release date of June 28, 2019, the film was removed from Paramount Pictures' release schedule following the negative reception to The Last Knight.^[2] By March 2019, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that a script was being written for sequels to both The Last Knight and Bumblebee (2018). It was later confirmed that the film will not be a direct sequel to the previous installment.^[3] In an interview in September 2021, when asked about the possibility of a sequel to The Last Knight, actor Josh Duhamel had expressed interest in reprising his role as Colonel William Lennox.^[4]

On November 20, 2024, in the wake of the underperformance of Transformers One earlier in September, Hasbro announced that they would no longer be co-financing film adaptions of their products and IPs, instead leaving external studios to exclusively fund such projects.^[5] In June 2025, it was reported that Michael Bay was in talks to direct a new film based on an idea he had pitched to the studio, with Jordan VanDina penning the screenplay. It was also noted that Paramount would have to begin production on a new film by 2029 or risk losing the film rights to the Transformers franchise.^[6][7] Following the merger of the parent company of Paramount Pictures, Paramount Global with Skydance Media, who was involved with the production of Rise of the Beasts to form Paramount Skydance in August 2025, a script with Bay's involvement was revealed to be fast-tracked. Citing the studio's desire to continue the franchise alongside with sequels to Top Gun: Maverick (2022), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023), and a fourth Star Trek film being mentioned prior to the latter's cancellation.^[8] Duhamel later clarified his interest reuniting with Bay later that same month.^[9] In September 2025, Tyrese Gibson hinted his return to the franchise as Robert Epps following his absence in The Last Knight due to scheduling conflicts with The Fate of the Furious released that same year.^[10] The film was revealed to be in the works at Paramount's presentation the following year at Cinemacon 2026.^[11] Steven Caple Jr., the director of Rise of the Beasts, revealed that the next film will not be a crossover with the G.I. Joe franchise as hinted in the ending scene.^[12]
