Lead
Ubong Essien is a Nigerian motivational speaker, author, and communications consultant. He is the founding Dean of the School of Eloquence and the founder of the Blue Economy Academy.[1] From 2020 to 2023, he served as the Special Adviser on Strategy and Communications to the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).[2][3]
Early Life and Education
Essien was born in Lagos and had his secondary education at Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene. He later attended the University of Ilorin, where he studied Biology Education.[4] Following an early career in publishing, he transitioned into professional public speaking in 2006 when he established the School of Eloquence, where his wife, Patience, serves as the registrar.[5]
Professional Speaking and Media Career
In 2012, Essien was certified as a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) by the National Speakers Association (NSA) in the United States.[6] He is the publisher of The Achievers Journal and has established media platforms including the Achievement Channel. He is also the founder of Blue Economy TV.
He is the author of books on public speaking and personal development, including "Speak with Power" and "The Challenge to Perform."[7]
Guinness World Record
In April 2026, Essien led a team from the School of Eloquence to set a new Guinness World Record for "The Longest Speech Marathon by a Team.[8]"[9] The marathon ran continuously for 480 hours from April 1 to April 21, 2026, in Lagos.[10] The record was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records in May 2026, surpassing the previous record of 127 hours set by Toastmasters District 112 in New Zealand.[11]
Youth Initiatives
Through the School of Eloquence, Essien initiated the "Catching Them Young in Public Speaking" program and the Eloquence Cup, an annual public speaking competition for secondary schools in Nigeria.[12]
