Draft:UP Entertainment

UP Entertainment is an American entertainment company founded by Charles “Charley” Humbard[1], son of televangelist Rex Humbard, on October 30, 2004[2]. Based in Atlanta, Ga., UP Entertainment features uplifting entertainment, across cable, satellite, and streaming platforms for over 20 years. Its brands include UP Faith & Family, UPtv, aspireTV, aspireTV+, GaitherTV+ and Cine Romántico. While working at Discovery Communications, UP Entertainment Founder and CEO Charles “Charley” Humbard was inspired to create a company dedicated to uplifting others in the wake of the events of September 11, 2001.[3]

On October 30, 2004, Gospel Music Channel was launched.[4] During this time, Gospel Music Heritage Month[5] is established as a national month of celebration Gospel Music. In 2009 Gospel Music Channel became GMC as the channel transformed from music to general uplifting entertainment.[6]

In 2012, UP Entertainment partnered with Earvin “Magic” Johnson to launch aspireTV, and g-Movies was introduced as a subscription streaming service for faith-based entertainment. The following year, GMC rebranded as UPtv, expanding to include original movies and series.[7] Over the next two years, g-Movies evolved into UP Faith & Family (UPFF) with about 1.4 million subscribers as of March 2024.[8] In 2015, aspireTV shifted its focus toward lifestyle programming.

In 2020, UP Entertainment, in partnership with Pixl Dos, launched Cine Romántico as a FAST channel on Xumo & Samsung TV Plus. That same year, the My UPtv Movies App was introduced. Two years later, aspireTV celebrated its 10th anniversary, and aspireTV+ Life launched as a FAST channel. In 2022, the UPtv app underwent a major update, leading to the release of version 2, branded as the My UPtv App.[9] UP Entertainment then launched the aspireTV app, added GaitherTV+ to streaming bundles, and introduced aspireTV+ in 2023. UP Entertainment celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 30, 2024, by establishing National UPlift Someone Day through the National Day Archives.[10]
