Triple01s are a Glasgow-based UK drill group consisting of members Trigga (Tyler Green) and YSK (Shakar). Formed in 2021, they became one of Scotland's most prominent drill acts before the death of Trigga in December 2022.[1][2]
Formation and early career
Triple01s were formed in Glasgow in 2021 by lifelong friends Tyler Green and Shakar, performing under the names Trigga and YSK respectively.[3] The group released their debut single "Oi Freeze Up" in 2021.[4] Trigga and YSK grew up together in Glasgow's Govanhill district.[4]
Music and record deal
The duo released a number of tracks including "LIVID", "Robbing Hood", "Trigga Dont Care", and "Attention".[1] In 2022, Triple01s signed a deal with Warner Records.[5] "LIVID" was listed among the top 100 tunes in Scotland for 2022 by The Herald.[6]
Triple01s attracted a following among Rangers F.C. players, with Ryan Kent, James Tavernier, Glen Kamara, and Alfredo Morelos among those who shared the group's music.[4] In October 2022, the group released the single "AYO", with its music video filmed at Ibrox Stadium.[4][7] YSK's Scottish/Kurdish heritage is reflected in a Kurdish-language bar included in the track.[4] The track was mixed by ADP, known for his work with Headie One and M Huncho.[4] In 2021, Triple01s honoured former Rangers captain James Tavernier with a dedicated track.[8]
Death of Tyler Green (Trigga)
Tyler Green was diagnosed with bone cancer in May 2021 and subsequently underwent a leg amputation.[1] He continued to record music throughout his treatment, including while receiving chemotherapy.[1][9] On 1 December 2022, Green publicly disclosed his diagnosis to fans via video, announcing that a catalogue of new music and a documentary had been completed.[3]
Green died on 10 December 2022, surrounded by his closest loved ones. He was 22 years old.[2][5] Triple01s announced his passing on social media, writing: "A kid who touched every life he encountered in his journey through life... A fighter like no other."[1] A funeral prayer was held at Glasgow Central Mosque, and Green was buried in accordance with Islamic tradition at Linn Cemetery.[5]
Rangers F.C. publicly paid tribute to Green, with the club's official account writing: "RIP Tyler. The thoughts of everyone at Rangers are with Tyler's family and friends."[1][3]
Legacy
Following Green's death, YSK stated that he had made a promise to Trigga to continue releasing music they had recorded together.[3] YSK has continued to release material under the Triple01s name.[10] In 2023, a pop-up store associated with the group drew large crowds on Buchanan Street in Glasgow city centre.[11]
