Torsten Reil is a German entrepreneur and computational biologist. He is co-founder and co-chief executive officer of Helsing, a German defence technology company, and was co-founder and chief executive officer of NaturalMotion, a British video game technology company acquired by Zynga in 2014.

Early life and education

Reil studied biology at the University of Oxford and later completed an MSc in Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems at the University of Sussex. Prior to founding NaturalMotion, he researched complex systems at Oxford's Department of Zoology.[1][2]

Career

NaturalMotion

In 2001, Reil co-founded NaturalMotion as a spin-out from the University of Oxford. The company developed animation and simulation technologies for video games and film.[1] In January 2014, Zynga agreed to acquire NaturalMotion for US$527 million.[3]

Helsing

In 2021, Reil co-founded Helsing, a Munich-based defence technology company. He serves as co-chief executive officer. The company develops artificial intelligence software and autonomous systems for military applications.[4]
