Tom Diva (born Thomas Tan, 2 May 1994) is an Australian singer-songwriter and music producer based in Melbourne. He is signed as a songwriter and producer with Universal Music Publishing Group and has written and produced music for artists in Australia and across Asia, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition to his songwriting and production work for other artists, he releases music as a solo artist under the name Tom Diva.

Early life and education

Thomas was born on 2 May 1994 in Melbourne, Australia, and was raised by his Malaysian Chinese mother alongside his sister. He attended Rowville Primary School and Rowville Secondary College before completing his secondary education at Waverley Christian College.

He later studied at the University of Melbourne, where he completed a Bachelor of Oral Health. During his studies, he graduated with Dean's Honours and contributed to peer-reviewed academic research in the field of oral health.[1]

After graduating, he practised as an oral health therapist in Singapore and Melbourne for approximately two years before leaving the profession to pursue a full-time career in music.

Career

Following his departure from dentistry, Thomas began working professionally as a songwriter and producer. His early work focused on contemporary pop and R&B-influenced music, drawing on both Western pop traditions and East Asian popular music.

Songwriting and production

Thomas has written for several Australian artists, including Sophie Monk, co-writing the single Nice to Meet You. The release marked Monk's first music single in more than a decade and received coverage from Australian media outlets, including Nine Entertainment and Out In Perth.[2][3]

He also collaborated with Australian R&B group CDB and musician Diesel on the song Christmas Is Here, which was released as part of a collaborative Christmas album featuring multiple Australian artists and was performed on Carols by Candlelight in 2020.[4][5]

Following these releases, Thomas signed a publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group.

International work

Thomas's song writing and production work later expanded into Asian music markets, particularly Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China.

In 2022, he co-wrote Breakin' My Heart, the debut single for Hong Kong artist Yumi Chung, a finalist on TVB's Star Academy. The release received coverage from Hong Kong media following its debut.[6]

The same year, he contributed to 水星座 Aquarius, the debut release by Taiwanese boy group AcQUA, which received coverage from Taiwanese media and charted on local digital platforms.[7]

Thomas later collaborated with Chinese DJ Lizzy Wang, writing and producing her single Feels So Right. Wang has been recognised within the Chinese electronic music scene and has appeared in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list.[8]

He also co-wrote the single Need Ya for artist Patrick Nattawat Finkler. Additionally, Thomas wrote Slide for the group Honey Punch, which received industry recognition at major Hong Kong music award ceremonies.[9]

Solo artistry

In addition to his songwriting and production work for other artists, Thomas releases music under the name Tom Diva. His solo work incorporates elements of pop, R&B, and cinematic production styles, and explores themes of identity, emotional vulnerability, and self-expression.
