The Foleys are an American punk rock band known for blending classic punk music with professional wrestling themes, a style the band has described as "wrestle punk." The group performs using wrestling-inspired personas and incorporates storylines, character identities, and references to professional wrestling culture into their music and live performances.
History
The Foleys formed in the early 2020s as a project centered around merging punk rock energy with professional wrestling aesthetics. From its inception, the band adopted masked or character-based identities rather than emphasizing the members’ real names, mirroring the tradition of kayfabe within professional wrestling.
The band has undergone several lineup changes, particularly involving the bass-playing persona known as "The Dude." The original version of the character was portrayed by a musician credited only as Preston. He was later replaced by Mike Gonzalez, who originally performed under the persona "Micky" before assuming the role of The Dude. Gonzalez departed the band in approximately 2022.
Following Gonzalez’s departure, Matt Stevenson performed as The Dude for roughly one year. He was succeeded by Niles Malec, who currently portrays the character. As of 2025, The Foleys operate as a four-piece band and are auditioning for a new member to fill the persona known as "Jacky."
The band’s frontman, Professor Pain, performs under a masked persona, and his real identity has not been publicly disclosed. Other members include Manny (Heath Hicks) and The Baron (Kenneth "Barry" Hunter). Jordan Kenney portrayed the character Jacky until his departure from the band in spring 2025.
Music
The Foleys’ music draws heavily from classic punk rock and pop punk traditions, featuring fast tempos, shouted vocals, and sing-along choruses. Lyrical content frequently references professional wrestling, incorporating terminology, match concepts, and wrestler archetypes into song themes.
Their album Cheap Pops and Hard Knocks was released in the mid-2020s and became one of the band’s most prominent releases.[1]
Critical reception
Cheap Pops and Hard Knocks received coverage from independent music publications. A staff writer for The Sounds Won’t Stop described the album as "a killer punk rock wrestling combination that hits the sweet spot for any fans of classic punk music," praising its "crew vocals, a crazy and addictive energy, and a thrashing vibe," while noting its extensive use of wrestling references and pop punk hooks.[2]
Media appearances
Members of The Foleys have appeared on several radio and podcast programs discussing the band’s concept and music. Professor Pain and Manny were interviewed on The Business of the Business with Lavie Margolin and John Poz, where they discussed the intersection of professional wrestling and punk rock.[3] The band has also been featured on Punk World Radio FM and the Dadmented Geek Den program.[4][5]
