TNL (formerly known as Tarek & Luss) is an American hip-hop duo consisting of brothers KING T (Tarek Lussier) and LUSS (Justin Lussier) from Battle Creek, Michigan. Formed in 2009, they are known for their independent releases, festival performances, and connections within the Michigan hip-hop scene, including mentorship from Detroit rapper Trick Trick.[1][2][3]

History

TNL formed in 2009 in Battle Creek, Michigan, initially performing under the name Tarek & Luss.[1][3] Early production came from Rikanatti (known for work on Eminem projects), including on The Suicide Note (2009) and The Minds of Tarek & Luss (2011).[1]

In 2013, they relocated to Los Angeles to tour with Ca$his, a former Shady Records artist.[1] Later releases included Lost In Los Angeles (2014), Grindhouse (2014), Planet Purp (2016), Dead Roses (2018; re-released 2024), and No Apologies (2020; re-released 2024).[1]

The 2022 single "King Kong" and album We Own the Night gained regional attention.[1][2][4] This was followed by American Ultra (2023).[5]

In 2025, KING T released the solo album Anti-Nice Superstar (featuring the single "Vultures," with its music video directed by Trick Trick), while LUSS released El Lussè (featuring the single "What's Up," with its music video also directed by Trick Trick).[6][7][8]

The duo has performed at events such as the High Times Cannabis Cup (including the 2019 Michigan event), sharing stages with artists like Busta Rhymes, Too Short, and Trick Trick, and maintains a cannabis product line with Evolution Grow & Edibles.[1][2][9]
