Police Career

T.K. Ratnakumar served in the Kerala Police, retiring in March 2025 as an ACP. He was notably part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that investigated the controversial death of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu in Kannur. His work in supervising the investigation brought him into public and political attention.[1]

Political Career

After retirement from the police, Ratnakumar joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and contested in the 2025 Kerala local body elections from the Kottur ward of Sreekandapuram Municipality, Kannur district. He won the election, marking his first step into active politics.[2][3]

ADM Naveen Babu Case

T.K. Ratnakumar was part of the SIT investigating the death of ADM Naveen Babu, found dead in October 2024. The death was officially recorded as suicide, following allegations made by P.P. Divya, a CPM leader and Kannur District Panchayat President, against Babu. The SIT supervised by Ratnakumar prepared a chargesheet proposing Divya as the sole accused for abetment of suicide. The Kerala High Court refused requests for a CBI probe into the matter, directing the SIT to continue the investigation.[4][5]
