Syed Kabir is a Canadian business professional, educator, community volunteer, and civic engagement advocate based in Thunder Bay. He is known for his involvement in community initiatives, business leadership, marketing, and municipal public engagement[1] within Northwestern Ontario.
Kabir has an active and passionate history of community involvement in Thunder Bay and has participated in numerous cultural, social, and local development initiatives aimed at strengthening community connections and supporting diversity and inclusion. In 2022, he was a candidate for Northwood Ward City Councillor during the 2022 Thunder Bay municipal election.[2] During his campaign, he emphasized the need for “new vision and strategy” for Thunder Bay and focused on issues including community development, economic growth, public safety, and civic engagement. Syed Kabir served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Thunder Bay Public Library. During his time on the board, he worked collaboratively with fellow board members and library leadership to help strengthen the library’s role as an inclusive community hub for learning, culture, and lifelong development in Thunder Bay.[3]
In addition to his community involvement, Kabir has a strong background in business management, operations, and marketing. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Lakehead University, where he further developed his interest in leadership, organizational strategy, and business development.
Kabir has held leadership positions within H&R Block Canada, where he has worked in district management and operations leadership roles, overseeing teams, business performance, client service operations, and regional growth initiatives in Northwestern Ontario.
Alongside his corporate career, Kabir has also been involved in post-secondary education as an instructor at Confederation College, teaching business and marketing-related courses. His professional interests include business strategy, marketing communications, entrepreneurship, leadership development, and community engagement.
Kabir has also worked on various digital marketing and media projects supporting local businesses and organizations in Thunder Bay through branding, advertising, and communications initiatives.
