Surabala Ghosh (née Dey) (Bengali: সুরবালা ঘোষ) (27 February 1867 – 11 March 1933) was a British Indian woman poet[1]

Biography

Surabala Dey was born to Nimoni Dey, a distinguished writer of Calcutta on 27 February 1867. She was the wife of Atulchandra Ghosh, a poet and writer of Deathless Ditties in 1921. Atulchandra was the son of Girishchandra Ghosh, the founder editor of English language newspaper, The Bengalee and English weekly, the Hindoo Patriot.[2] She was a learned lady, poet and skilled in fine arts.She used to compose poems from her early childhood that she gained from her parents. Manmathanath Ghosh, a noted Bengali biographer, was her son. He published the poems of her mother by a collection named "Madhura (Bengali: মধুরা) in Bengali after his mother demise.

Surabala died on 11 March 1933 in Kolkata.[1]
