The Stoeger M3000 is a semi-automatic inertia-driven shotgun developed by Stoeger Industries, and parent company Benelli USA.[1]Released in 2012, the M3000 uses a variation of the Benelli inertia-driven operating system; Originally designed by Crister Sjorgren in the early 1900s, and later refined by Italian engineer Bruno Civolani.[2] The shotgun remains in production today, and is mainly marketed towards sport shooters and recreational hunters.

Variants

The Stoeger M3000 comes in a competition ready configuration, titled the "M3K." This firearm comes with an oversized bolt release button, and an oversized charging handle. The action, receiver, and all other internal components are identical to the M3000's. The M3K comes equipped with a ribbed barrel, bead sight, synthetic butt stock, and a synthetic handguard. The "tactical" variant comes standard with ghost ring sights, a picatinny rail mounted to the receiver, and a breaching choke. The synthetic furniture on the tactical configuration features M-LOK slots on the handguard, and a buttstock that resembles the Magpul SGA series. In regions that restrict the use of semi-automatic shotguns, the Stoeger M3000 can be imported in a straight-pull configuration.

Notable Users

Competitive sport shooter Patrick E. Kelley is a prominent user of the Stoeger M3000 platform and offered significant feedback to make it suitable for shooting competitions out of the box. Initially, Kelley purchased an early model M3000 and tested it's durability and effectiveness in multi-gun competition shooting. Kelley was pleased to find that despite its low price, the shotgun outperformed many other budget and mid range semi-automatic shotguns. Kelley continued to document his use and improvement of the platform, until he was approached by Stoeger Industries engineers. Kelley and Stoeger Industries developed the M3K model, with significant improvements to the M3000 platform coming in a store-bought configuration.[3] MOA Precision offered a further customized unofficial model of the M3K dubbed the "P3K", (P referring to Patrick Kelley.) This model was developed with further input from Kelley, and features the "Pat Kelly Signature Loading Port Mod." It has a host of other modifications, many of which further improve the reliability and ergonomics of the shotgun.
