Stephen Curran was a British Labour Party politician who served as leader of Hounslow London Borough Council from 2014 to 2022.
Curran was elected to Hounslow London Borough Council in 2010 as councillor for Syon ward. On 10 June 2014, he was elected leader of the council. He remained leader until 2022, when he stood down because of illness.[1][2][3]
During his leadership, Curran was associated with regeneration, housing and local economic policy in Hounslow. He was quoted in coverage of housing investment in London boroughs, the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on airport-linked communities, and disputes over public health guidance in 2021.[4][5][6]
In March 2022, Curran announced that he would not seek re-election because he was receiving treatment for cancer. Following the 2022 local election, Shantanu Rajawat was elected as the new leader of Hounslow Council.[7][8]
In the 2023 New Year Honours, Curran was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to local government and to the community in Hounslow.[9]
Curran died in March 2024 after a long illness.[10]
