Spectora is an American (SaaS) company headquartered in Denver, Colorado, that develops business management and report-writing software for professional home inspectors. Founded in 2015 by brothers Michael Wagstaff and Kevin Wagstaff, Spectora offers a web-based and mobile platform used by home inspectors across North America to write reports, manage scheduling, process payments, and communicate with clients. As of 2025, the company reported serving more than 10,000 home inspectors worldwide.[1]

History

Spectora was founded in 2015 in Denver, Colorado, by Michael Wagstaff and Kevin Wagstaff [2]. From its founding, Spectora positioned itself as an independently owned software platform, generating revenue exclusively from inspector subscriptions rather than data sales. [3]

In October 2022, Spectora announced a partnership with a leading provider of pre-licensure training and reporting software to expand career resources for home inspectors. [4]

In May 2024, Spectora announced an exclusive technology partnership with LaunchPad Home Group, a portfolio operator of home inspection companies, to power over 50,000 annual inspections using the Spectora Advanced platform. [5]

In April 2025, Spectora acquired HomeGauge, a home inspection software company founded in 2001 and based in Asheville, North Carolina, which had previously been owned by American Family Mutual Insurance Company.[6] The acquisition was announced by CEO Peter Osberg, who described it as an opportunity to combine HomeGauge's industry experience with Spectora's technology to accelerate innovation for home inspectors. Following the acquisition, both platforms continued to operate independently while the companies planned longer-term integration.

Products and Services

Spectora's core offering is a cloud-based software platform that allows home inspectors to write inspection reports on mobile devices or desktop computers and deliver them to clients digitally. The platform includes scheduling tools, automated client and agent communications, integrated payment processing, and customizable inspection templates.[7]

Spectora offers three core services:

  • Spectora Software – the base platform for report writing, scheduling, and business management.
  • Spectora Advanced – an enhanced set of office management tools designed for multi-inspector firms and enterprise-level inspection companies.
  • Spectora Website – a standalone website product for home inspectors intended to generate client leads.

In addition to its core platform, Spectora introduced an AI-powered feature called Comment Assist, which helps inspectors generate professional, buyer- and agent-friendly report comments during the inspection process.[8]

Spectora is compatible with Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.[9] The company also operates Spectora University, a self-paced training resource for inspectors learning the platform.[10]
