smoodi is an American food technology company that manufactures, distributes, and operates automated, self-service smoothie kiosks. Founded in 2018 by Pascal Kriesche and Morgan Abraham, the company is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.[1][2] The company specializes in robotic vending units that prepare single-serve smoothies using pre-packaged frozen fruit cups.[3]
History and Operations
The company commercially launched its product in 2021, targeting the "contactless economy" sector following the COVID-19 pandemic.[3][4] In December 2022, smoodi closed a $5 million Series A funding round led by private investors and venture capital firms.[3][5] Concurrent with this funding, the company established a national distribution partnership with Dot Foods to scale its logistics.[6]
The company operates on a business-to-business (B2B) model, placing machines in corporate offices, universities, healthcare facilities, and retail locations.[7] In 2025, Fast Company named smoodi one of the "Most Innovative Companies" in the dining and food services sector.[8]
Technology and Products
The smoodi kiosk is an automated countertop unit that blends frozen ingredients inside a cup. The company holds registered patents for its proprietary blending apparatus, self-cleaning sanitization methods and proprietary packaging solution which eliminates food waste.[9] The machine cleans itself after each blending cycle and self-sanitizes according to local health requirements.[3]
The kiosks use proprietary cups containing flash-frozen fruits, vegetables and additives such as protein and coffee. According to the company, they offer products that are vegan, gluten-free, and contain no added sugars.[10][11]
