Skisens AB is a Swedish sports technology company focused on measurement and data analysis for cross-country skiing. The company develops sensor-based systems for monitoring pole force, ski power and skiing technique, along with software for performance tracking and training analysis.
History
Skisens was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2017 by Dan Kuylenstierna, Johan Högstrand, Szhau Lai, Henrik Gingsjö and Chalmers Ventures.[1]
Early development focused on force-measuring ski pole handles intended to quantify power in cross-country skiing. Under an earlier project name, Powerpole, the technology won Chalmers Ventures’ Startup Camp in 2017.[2]
Technology
Skisens develops hardware and software aimed at measuring pole force and movement during skiing. The system is designed to record metrics such as applied force and pole angle, which can be used for performance analysis in training environments.[3]
In 2020, endurance coach Erik Wickström reported on early field use of the system for training analysis in cross-country skiing.[4]
The technology has been used in elite skiing contexts, including by Swedish long-distance athletes preparing for competition.[5] Göteborgs-Posten reported its application in monitoring athlete development.[6]
Recognition
Skisens’ inclusion in the Chalmers Ventures accelerator programme was covered in Swedish media and startup press.[1]
The system has been discussed in Swedish sports and technology outlets as an example of emerging measurement tools in skiing.[3][4]
