The Simcoe Curling Club is a curling club in Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. It offers recreational and competitive curling for youth and adults and serves as a community hub for local events and bonspiels.
History
Curling in Simcoe dates back to the 19th century, with organized play reported as early as 1873 on outdoor ice such as Sutton’s Pond. The present indoor Simcoe Curling Club organization was founded in 1955, continuing a long-standing local tradition of the sport.[1]
In 1957, the Rotary Club of Simcoe began sponsoring an annual International Rotary Mixed Curling Bonspiel at the club.[2]
A 2025 feature described the club as rebuilding its membership and highlighted renewed interest in curling in the community.[3]
Over its history, the club has been affiliated with the Curling Ontario ( formerly Ontario Curling Association or CurlON), participating in regional and provincial playdowns. The club has periodically renovated and upgraded its facilities to maintain modern ice conditions and amenities for members and visitors.
Facilities and programs
The club operates a multi‑sheet indoor curling facility in Simcoe, typically running a late fall–winter season. It hosts a variety of leagues, including open, mixed, men’s, women’s, daytime, and youth programs, as well as learn‑to‑curl sessions and 5 and under Instructional leagues for new players.
In addition to league play, the club organizes bonspiels and special events that attract teams from the region. The lounge and club rooms are also used for social activities and rentals for community gatherings.
Community involvement
The Simcoe Curling Club is active in the local community, supporting school and junior curling initiatives and partnering with local organizations and sponsors. Club events and bonspiels contribute to the social and recreational life of Simcoe and Norfolk County, drawing participants and spectators from surrounding communities.
