He came to wider public attention after selling the consumer brand arm of Tails Trading for approximately $500 million in 2024.
Early life and education
Siddharth Shankar was born and raised in Mumbai, India, with family roots in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.[1] He completed a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from JSS Academy of Technical Education, affiliated with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), graduating in 2012.[2]
He relocated to the United Kingdom to pursue postgraduate study, completing an MBA at the University of Strathclyde Business School in Glasgow between 2016 and 2017, where he studied under mentor Phillip Taylor.[2][3]
Career
Early ventures (2010–2017)
Shankar launched his first business while still studying computer science engineering.[2] After graduating, he co-founded Connoisseur Branding Solutions, a branding and marketing consultancy based in New Delhi, in 2010, which he led until 2016.[4] He subsequently worked briefly in banking in New Delhi before pursuing his MBA.[5]
Tails Trading Ltd (2017–2024)
In 2017, following completion of his MBA, Shankar co-founded Tails Trading Ltd in London, initially focused on connecting British brands with markets in Asia.[2] His co-founder departed in 2019, after which Shankar assumed full ownership of the company.[2]
Under Shankar's sole leadership, Tails Trading reported an annual turnover of approximately £6.8 billion, managing more than 285 consumer brands across food and beverage, homeware, and electronics categories, with a global distribution network serving over 150,000 customers across retail, HORECA, wholesale, and convenience store channels.[2][5][6] The company reported an annual turnover of approximately £6.8 billion.[6][7] Shankar has stated in interviews that the business was built without external investors or debt financing, retaining 100 per cent equity throughout.[6][8]
Shankar also managed a £2 billion trade finance fund as part of the group's financial operations, and navigated pandemic-related disruption during 2020–2021 by adapting Tails Trading's model to focus on local UK markets, partnering with British supermarkets to ensure supply chain resilience.[5][2]
In August 2024, Shankar completed the sale of Tails Trading's consumer brand arm to a consortium of investors, which included an American supermarket chain, for over $500 million (approximately £395 million).[7][9][2][10] Following the exit, Shankar spoke publicly about experiencing an unexpected period of personal and professional disorientation, describing the loss of daily routine after more than fifteen years of continuous entrepreneurial activity. He discussed the experience in an appearance on the Trending Diary podcast, which was subsequently covered by several national and international publications.[2][5][11]
Komerz Ltd (2024–present)
In September 2024, Shankar was appointed Global Chief Operating Officer of Komerz Ltd, a marketing and commerce platform that provides distribution and omnichannel services to consumer goods companies including Unilever, PepsiCo, and Diageo.[6][12] At Komerz, Shankar has focused on developing the company's Commerce as a Service (CaaS) model, an artificial intelligence and machine learning-based platform designed to enable global brand distribution.[6]
In February 2026, Komerz acquired Pathformance, a performance marketing company, with the combined entity valued at $330 million following the transaction.[13]
Shankar also works in an advisory capacity with several private equity funds with a combined investment mandate of approximately $12.5–13 billion.[6]
Sports investments
In December 2025, Shankar acquired the Jaipur Djinns franchise in the World Pickleball League.[14][15][16]
Other investments
In December 2025, Shankar invested £400,000 in Arya Ventures, a venture capital fund focused on supporting entrepreneurs from the Indian diaspora.[17]
Personal life
Shankar was born in Mumbai, India, and later relocated to the United Kingdom. He maintains professional interests in global consumer markets, venture investments, and sports.
