Draft:Sherrie Lueder

  • Comment: To show that an author meets our inclusion criteria, the typical requirement is to find at least two published reviews each of at least two of their books. Alternatively, you can show that Lueder meets the inclusion criteria by finding multiple sources about her that are reliable, strictly independent, and that discuss her and her work in detail (e.g. a profile of her in an established newspaper or magazine). All of the information in the draft should also be supported by a citation to a reliable source - at the moment the section "Early life and background" is unsourced, so this information needs to be either cited or removed. There are also issues with promotional tone that I suggest fixing (e.g. "international bestselling true crime author", "her 2011 breakout book", "established her reputation for meticulous investigative research"). Sherrie Lueder (born November 13, 1951) is an American international bestselling true crime author and investigative researcher. She is best known for her investigative nonfiction works, including "He Killed Our Janny": A Family's Search for the Truth and Until Someone Gets Hurt. Her work has been adapted for television and served as the basis for the scripted series American Hustlers.

Early life and background

Lueder was born Sherrie Rae Taarud in Tracy, Minnesota. Her interest in investigative research was influenced by her family background; her grandfather served as a U.S. Marshal for 25 years, and her stepfather was a Chief of Police. She eventually settled in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Literary career

Lueder's writing career began in the true crime genre with her 2011 breakout book, "He Killed Our Janny": A Family's Search for the Truth, which investigated the death of Janette "Janny" Roberson.[1] The book received recognition in the 2011 Top 10 True Crime Book Awards.

In 2013, she co-authored Until Someone Gets Hurt with Tyson Wrensch. The book investigates an international crime spree involving a group known as the "Gay Grifters," led by Kaushal Niroula. This work established her reputation for meticulous investigative research into complex fraud and murder cases.[2]

Media and adaptations

Lueder’s investigative work has been featured across multiple media platforms:

  • Television: The "Gay Grifters" case, detailed in her book, was featured on the Investigation Discovery series Forbidden in 2013.[3]
  • Podcasts: Her research has been featured on the American Hustlers podcast.
  • Scripted Series: In April 2026, it was announced that a scripted series titled American Hustlers, inspired by Lueder's book Until Someone Gets Hurt, was in development at Hulu via Warner Bros. Television.[4]
