Semaltara is a prescription medication containing semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is an oral tablet formulation developed and marketed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Promomed.[1]
The drug was registered in the Russian Federation in 2025 and became the first domestically produced oral semaglutide following the withdrawal of the reference product Rybelsus from the Russian market.[2][3]
Medical use
Semaltara is indicated for improving glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and physical activity.[4]
Pharmacology
Semaglutide is a long-acting analogue of human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). It increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses inappropriate glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying. These effects contribute to improved glycaemic control and may also reduce appetite and body weight.
The pharmacological properties of oral semaglutide have been extensively studied in international clinical trials of the reference drug Rybelsus.[5]
Formulation and dosage
Semaltara is supplied as oral tablets in the following strengths:
- 3 mg
- 7 mg
- 14 mg
The dosing regimen follows standard titration protocols established for oral semaglutide formulations.[6]
