Rujira is an open-source decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that operates as the application layer on the THORChain network. It provides a suite of financial applications that allow users to interact with native blockchain assets without the use of wrapped tokens or custodial bridges.

Rujira is built using the Cosmos SDK and integrates directly with THORChain to support cross-chain liquidity and settlement using native assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Rujira was developed to provide decentralized financial services while minimizing reliance on intermediaries. The platform enables trading, liquidity provision, lending, and other financial activities using native assets held in decentralized vaults secured by THORChain.

The platform positions itself as an application layer for THORChain, leveraging its cross-chain infrastructure to offer financial products that do not require smart contract wrappers or centralized custody.

Rujira relies on THORChain’s decentralized vault architecture to manage cross-chain assets. These vaults secure native assets and allow them to be used within Rujira applications through secured asset mechanisms.

Unlike many DeFi platforms, Rujira does not rely on the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol for most cross-chain activity. Instead, it uses THORChain’s native settlement system to connect blockchains.

Rujira offers a range of decentralized financial products, including:

• Automated market making and liquidity pools
• Perpetual and derivative trading products
• Non-custodial lending and borrowing markets
• Cross-chain asset swaps

The platform’s native token, RUJI, has a fixed supply of 100 million tokens. RUJI functions as a fee-sharing token, allowing holders who stake the token to receive a portion of protocol revenue. The token does not provide governance rights.

Rujira emerged from the consolidation of several decentralized finance initiatives and was developed in close alignment with the THORChain ecosystem. Its creation was intended to expand THORChain’s functionality by providing a dedicated application layer for decentralized financial services.
