Dr. Ravi Kota IAS

Dr. Ravi Kota is an Indian civil servant and a 1993 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre[1][2]. He has served as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam since 2024.[3][4]

Early Life and Education

Kota was born on 12 April 1966.[1] Official profiles of the Government of Assam state that he received a gold medal for his Ph.D. in Agronomy.[5]

Career

Kota joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1993 and was allotted to the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.[1][2] During his service in Assam, he held senior administrative positions, including posts in the Home and Political Department, the Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Department and the Finance Department.[3][4]

Kota also served on central deputation. In 2020, he was appointed Minister (Economic) at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. At the time of the appointment, he was serving as Joint Secretary in the Fifteenth Finance Commission under the Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India.[6]

Chief Secretary of Assam

In January 2024, Kota was appointed as the 51st Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, succeeding Paban Kumar Borthakur.[7] He assumed charge as Chief Secretary in 2024 after Borthakur’s retirement.[4]

In June 2024, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet empaneled Kota for Secretary or Secretary-equivalent positions in the Government of India.[8]

Personal life

Official profiles state that Kota is fluent in Telugu, Hindi, English, Assamese and Bengali.[9][5]
