Andy Skipworth founded Rated People in 2005 after experiencing difficulties with a home improvement project.
The company raised Series A funding from Frog Capital in 2011.[2] By 2013, annual revenues were approximately £12 million.[3]
In 2014, Rated People secured £6.5 million in a pre-IPO funding round co-led by Frog Capital and Western Technology Investment.[2]
In September 2018, the company raised £5.2 million from Channel 4 Ventures and Downing Ventures in a media-for-equity arrangement.[4]
Adrienne Minster, served as chief executive officer from 2020 until 2024, when she was succeeded by Ottokar Rosenberger.[5]
In 2022, the company raised additional funding led by investor Martin Port.[6]
The company refinanced existing debt through Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank's Growth finance division.[7]
Business model
Rated People is an online marketplace where homeowners post job requirements and tradespeople submit quotes for work. Homeowners use the platform for free, while tradespeople pay subscription and per-job fees to access leads.[8]
As of 2024, the company reported more than 50,000 tradespeople using the service and processing over one million jobs annually.[9]
Awards and recognition
In 2022, Best Companies ranked Rated People #149 in its list of mid-sized UK companies to work for, #42 in the London regional ranking, and #21 in the business services sector.[9]
