Rashid Mlongo, also known by his stage name Renegade or The Renegade, is a South African actor and rapper based in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. He is known for his work as a hip hop artist and for his roles in South African film and television.

Early life

Mlongo grew up in Stanger (now KwaDukuza), KwaZulu-Natal.[1]

Music career

Mlongo began his music career in the underground hip hop scene. In 2005, he released his first mixtape, All-Star Hype, followed by a second mixtape, KZN's Most Wanted, in 2014. He was a member of the hip hop collective The Hip Hop Intellectuals in 2009.[2][1]

In 2020, Mlongo released his debut studio album, Saved, under his own record label, Renegade Music and Entertainment. The album is a Christian rap and hip hop record based on his personal faith journey. It was written and recorded over two weeks in December 2019 and released in early 2020. To promote the album, Mlongo appeared on Metro FM's "Rap Activity Jam" show with DJ Oskido and Rashid Kay.[2]

Get It Magazine described Mlongo as "a gospel rapper" in a profile published in its Ballito edition.[3]

Acting career

Mlongo made his film debut in 2014, playing the lead character in the feature film Finding Home, directed by Vusi Madondo.[2] He later appeared as businessman Brian Morris in the comedy web series Hot Mess.[1]

He went on to appear in the TV series Blood Legacy (2024) and had a role in the South African comedy film My Cousin's Big Fat Durban Wedding (2025), directed and produced by Theshen Naicker.[4][5]

Personal life

Mlongo has worked in the healthcare sector alongside his entertainment career, having been employed at Netcare Alberlito Hospital in KwaDukuza.[2]
